With more than 30 years of clinical experience in cardiac surgery, Dr. Balakrishnan is one of the most eminent cardiothoracic surgeons in southern India. He is currently the Director, Cardiac Sciences and Chief Cardiothoracic & Transplant Surgeon at Fortis Malar Hospital. Dr. Balakrishnan completed his MBBS from JIPMER, Pondicherry in 1976, and obtained his degree of MS in General Surgery from the prestigious AIIMS in 1980. Later on, he completed his M. Ch in Cardiothoracic surgery from KEM hospital, Mumbai. Prior to Fortis, he was associated with Green lane hospital, Railway Hospital, and Sri Ramchandra Medical College and Research Institute.

Dr. Balakrishnan has more than 300 heart transplant and 20000 cardiac surgeries under his credit. He is highly competent and experienced in managing almost all type of cardiac disorders with high ease. His list of services includes Coronary Artery Disease, Heart Failure & Heart Transplant and Coronary Artery Disease. He is a famous name in India, as well as international in the cardiac surgery as many patients from the countries such as USA, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, have visited Dr. Balakrishnan for treatment. He has also performed heart transplant surgery in a pediatric patient coming from Russia.
